Jon Klingensmith
Husband; Father; Athlete; USAT Level 1 Certified Coach; RRCA Certified Coach;
My athletic history involves many different sports. In my youth, I did everything from baseball to basketball to soccer. I continued soccer and basketball all the way through high school and when it came time to go to college, I was not ready to give up my athletic career and continued playing soccer in college. With so much soccer in my past, I had always been a decent runner and done the occasional 5K or 10K run. However, a friend of mine was doing the Columbus Marathon in the late 90’s and I got the idea I wanted to give it a try so I did my first marathon in 1999. I did several marathons over the next few years including the Chicago Marathon and the California International Marathon (CIM).
In 2005, at the CIM, I qualified for the Boston Marathon and ran it the following spring. In the summer of 2005, I also did my first triathlon and was completely hooked from the beginning. I did my first half-iron distance race the following year and my first Ironman in 2007. I have done 7 Ironman distance races thus far and many half-iron distance races across the country, including Vineman 70.3, Wildflower, and the World’s Toughest Half in Auburn, CA. I also have a family with two active children, so weaving in the most efficient training that it fits into your life is critically important to me. Working together we will find the optimal plan for any lifestyle.
In addition to my athletic background, I also have a degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering. I have taken graduate level courses in physiology, and I am keenly interested in the science behind endurance sports and how our bodies respond to athletic training. I have a particular interest in training and racing with power and have been doing so myself since 2008. With the mindset that we are the best subjects for training experimentation and the idea that we chart a course, assess results, and scientifically adjust the plan, I will draw on my own experiences to help us work towards your goals in the most efficient way possible. I am on a continuous journey to improve and am a dedicated student of the sport.
