Ironman Louisville – Sheila Leard

Ironman Louisville Race Report – October 11, 2015

First off I can’t say enough about the support on every level that teammate Jen gave me. It fits with my dictum of ‘the best part of triathlon is meeting superb people’.

Coach Jon! This race came together because of Jon. We have worked together for 5 years. He has the ability to pull out of me a level of fitness that I could never do on my own. He got me to believe ...

What I Learned in Louisville

Here’s what I learned in my first Ironman since 2011…

  • Ironman is HARD – Not to state the obvious, but wow it’s a long day. I pooped out about 8.5 hours into my 10.5ish hour race.  Those last 2 hours were not so much fun.  The corollary to this one is that 112 miles is a LONG way to bike “in race mode.”  I knew my day wasn’t going to unfold the way I had hoped when my power fell off ...

IM Boulder 70.3 AG Win – Sheila Leard

Last September when IM Tahoe was canceled due to the wildfires I chose this race as my parlay race. Victory #1: Although my “injury/condition” has kept me from running the way I had planned, I was able to train the bike and swim with no pain. Thank you Jon K!
Victory #2: My bike sustained damage that was actually repairable when ...

The swell of the tide is palpable. I feel the energy beneath me as though the perfect wave is just beginning to form. My body is buzzing with anticipation and patience feels more like a noose than a virtue. While I’m not a surfer, this has been my state of mind for months as I’ve been working and waiting for many initiatives to come to fruition that hold promise ...

San Diego Triathlon Challenge

“Event” Report

On October 21, with Justin Waller as my guide, we took part in the 19th annual Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) San Diego Triathlon Challenge. It is made clear to participants that it is an “event” and not a race.  Consequently, it is an “open” course with no road closures. There are lots of stoplights and participants clip a laminated map on their bikes to ensure wrong turns are minimized. ...
